23.9.2018 - Emil Lindholm collect 5th position in italian Rally Adritiaco

GRX-team Flying Finn Emil Lindholm and his co-driver Emil Lindholm drove 5th fastest pace in italian Rally Adriatico, which was 5th round of Italian Rally Championship series. Finns measured their speed with italian HMI Hyundai Rally Team Hyundai i20 R5 rally car. Finns were eventually 1:29,5 minutes slower than rally winner Umberto Scandola, who drove with Skoda Fabia R5.

First four stages Lindholm controlled the pace as he was leading the rally. However brake problems, drive shaft break-up and a roll in third final stage dropped Finns out from podium positions. Lindholm was very sorry for not having the patience in his first italian gravel rally with Hyundai i20 R5.

- I just couldn't be patient and get myself known to italian conditions as I just decided to go flat out from the first stage on. When reviewing the moments we had during the event, 5th position is still an OK result as on first day I made a mistake in one slow chicane which was narrower than we knew. On that impact the drive shaft broke up and we limbed to service with only using real-wheel drive, Lindholm told.

- In Saturday at one stage the grip was so hard that we lost the brakes even I tried to drive as easy as I ever could. It didn't work out as brakes boiled and we had to slow down, youngster continued.

Before three final stages Finns were in third position, just 28 seconds slower than leading driver. However a roll on next stage dropped the duo into 8th position. Then on final two stages they managed to collect three positions and finished the event in 5th position in overall standings.

- It was complitely my own mistake as I turned too late in one tarmac corner. I lost the rear and we dropped to a field and rolled two times. When the car stopped to its' wheels I restart the engine and we were able to continue. It was a soft roll as all wheels didn't suffer any damages. Hyundai i20 R5 is a very strong car, Lindholm summed.

- The main thing in this rally was that we finished the event and collect new experiences. In Italian Rally Championship series there are many drivers who are very competitive and therefore it was nice to see that our pace was good comparing to their speed. This rally was also an excellent preparation for the final round of Finnish Rally Championship series which is to be driven in next weekend, Lindholm shared his feelings.

7th and final round of the Finnish Rally Championship series is to be driven in south-west region of Finland in surroundings of Turku and Salo. In two intense rally days Lindholm and co-driver Korhonen aim to collect silver medal of the FRC1-group.
