17.2.2018 - Emil Lindholm retired in FRC Vaakuna rally due off road

Second round of the Finnish Rally Championship series was driven in region of Mikkeli, central-Finland. Flying Finn and GRX Team drivers Emil Lindholm and co-driver Mikael Korhonen were forced to retire the event due sliding out of the road in 5th stage. In the moment of retirement, Lindholm was 1,2 seconds from third position.

- It was a easy right corner in the middle of the stage. I braked a bit too lite and rear wheels entered damped snow causing the car to spin. Front of the car went inside snow bank and then we slided out of the road. We couldn't continue because the cooler broke up and liquids came out from the system, Lindholm tells.

- Ofcourse I'm not happy about it. However we drove our own pace as we had planned: smooth and fast. We didn't take any risks but as driving for top positions these kind of things sometimes happen. The marginals for failure and success is very thin and now we suffered dissapointing result, Lindholm continued.

Conditions in FRC Vaakuna rally were very tricky as the stages were in very fast and slippery. Surface of the stages included lots of damped loose snow.

- I haven't ever driven rally in these kind of conditions and therefore we learned a lot - especially from my mistake. I'm not happy for not completing the rally and losing experiences for many highly valuable special stage kilometres, Lindholm tells.

- This retirement changes our strategy for the third and final winter round which is to be driven in surroundings of Joensuu, eastern Finland. There are no more room for mistakes so I have to finish forthcoming events to gain experiences from all special stage kilometres, Lindholm reminds.

Another young Flying Finn, Kalle Rovanperä, age of 17 and his co-driver Jonne Halttunen were fastest team in the rally. Rovanperä also won the rally a year ago. Eerik Pietarinen leads Finnish Rally Championship series by safe 23 points margin as there are still five rounds to be driven.
